A bottle of Oceano Pinot Noir

Archaeological evidence shows that the first wines were created in coastal regions such  Georgia (on the Black Sea) and Sicily (in the Mediterranean Sea) . Centuries ago, early wine makers realized the impact that bodies of water had on grapes. This relationship between the sun, sea, and sky creates an incredible grape that can become an exquisite wine, such as our Oceano Pinot Noir wine. Learn more about what makes our coastal brand so very special.

Pinot Noir Wine

“At their best, Pinot Noir is the most romantic of wines, with so voluptuous a perfume, so sweet an edge, and so powerful a punch that, like falling in love, they make the blood run hot and the soul wax embarrassingly poetic.” – Joel Fleischman, Vanity Fair

Are you a fan, too? Pinot Noir is the most popular light-bodied red wine in the entire world! Consumers love the red fruit, flower, and spice aromas that make this wine such an incredible taste sensation. The long, smooth finish is just as delightful as the flavor. Pinot Noir grapes grow best in cooler climates, which is why ours thrive in our SLO Coast Vineyard.

Where the Coast Meets the Vines

“The San Luis Obispo area is rich in sandy soils and varied expositions and enjoys the additional benefit of a long, historically weather-event-free growing season that mitigates many of the maladies (notably frost damage) that plague many other cool winegrowing regions around the world.” – Josh Raynolds, Vinous

We grow our grapes and craft our wines on the San Luis Obispo coast, referred to as the SLO Coast. This unique location creates a trifecta that is perfect for Pinot Noir wines: cooler days, warmer nights, and an absence of heat waves. Our steady temperatures are ideal for Pinot Noir grapes, which can be temperamental and hard to grow in poor conditions. This spectacular location gives our wines a significant edge over others.

Spanish Springs

Rows of trees at a winery

Spanish Springs is a rarity within the sprawling Central Coast AVA because it is closer to the Pacific Ocean than any other vineyard in this appellation, not to mention the Golden State itself.” – Oceano Wines Vineyard

Spanish Springs Vineyard is the sole source of fruit for Oceano Wines. A mere 1.5 miles from the ocean, this vineyard is perched on the slopes of Price Canyon. Spanish Springs vineyard is ideally located to enjoy all the benefits of this location. Cool marine breezes roll in every morning without fail, allowing the berries to warm gradually as the sun rises in the sky. As the day wanes, cooling Pacific breezes prevent the grapes from over ripening. Just as the sea and sky cradle our fruit, the earth below provides as well. A complex mix of sandstone, shale, and limestone creates a soil that allows us to grow berries with the fresh taste we love and crave.

Tart and gamy aromas battle for attention on the nose of this fresh while funky bottling, showing brisk raspberry as well as charcuterie and shiitake touches. There’s a sour red-fruit streak to the palate, which also shows dried game flavors.

The Chalk ReportThe nose is cherries, forest floor, and thyme. The palate: is distinguished by its savoriness. It has medium acid, chewy tannins, cherries, and mushrooms all wrapped into a complex and sophisticated bundle. The finish is soft fruit and earthy notes.

From a very cool vineyard, this bottling offers a strong herbal kick to the nose, where singed oregano, thyme and marjoram aromas meet with a cran-raspberry fruit base. That singed herb tone carries to the sip as well, where bay leaf decorates the pomegranate core.

The Best California Pinot Noir

Wow. This wine is delish! It’s a bit pricey, and only available online, but damn this is good. It has that Central Coast style with juicy cherry cola fruit and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate you just wanna chew on it with its fleshy, viscous mouthfeel. This is a bottle to pull out with close friends and legit light meats like duck or herb roasted chicken.
